Can You Solve This Math Puzzle?

I’m sure you’ve seen these images on Facebook. They usually look straight forward. But there’s usually a little trick to it. So what’s the trick here?

Well, from the first line, 3 apples = 3, so 1 apple = 10.

On the second line, 10 plus 2 bunches of bananas = 18. So, 1 bunch is 4. (And this line is where the trick starts!)

On the third line, if 4 – 2 coconuts = 2. So, 1 coconut = 1.

And now the final line:

See what they did? There’s something–that bunch of bananas only has 3 bananas in it! If we look above, each of the bunches have 4 bananas in there. If a bunch of 4 bananas is 4, then 1 banana = 1. And a bunch of 3 bananas = 3.

So, 1 coconut (1) + 1 apple (10) + 3 bananas (3) = 14. And that’s the answer!
